Akshardham Temple

Description

Akshardham temple is a Hindu temple and a spiritual-cultural campus in Delhi. It is also referred to as Swaminarayan Akshardham. The complex exhibit millennia of historical Hindu and Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture. It was inspired by Yogiji Maharaj and created by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, and BAPS constructed it. On 6 November 2005, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the temple and was officially opened. The temple which is present at the center of the complex was built according to the Vastu shastra and Pancharatra shastra. In Akshardham Delhi, the main shrine is the focal point and maintains the central position of the entire complex. There are various exhibition halls which give detailed information about the life and work of Swaminarayan. The designers of the complex have adopted contemporary modes of communication and technology to create all those exhibition halls.

History

This whole temple holds a very firm belief in the Hindu culture. It is one of the most significant and beautiful temples currently present in India which carries a perfect amount of faith in the heart of millions of worshippers.

  • Free Entry To: Welcome gates, Visitor center, Holy footprints, Mandir, Gajendra Pith, Narayan sarovar, Bharat Upavan and Yogi hridaykamal. Exhibition Tickets – Adults (Age 12+): ₹ 170 Seniors (Age 60+): ₹ 125 Children (Age 4 – 11): ₹ 100 Children (Below Age 4): Free Tickets include all three exhibitions. Water show tickets – Adults (Age 12+): ₹ 80 Seniors (Age 60+): ₹ 80 Children (Age 4 – 11): ₹ 50 Children (Below Age 4): Free Abhishek donation – Rs. 50 (Darshan is free) You can get your picture captured at the excellent Vantage point in the campus and can pick it up at the book and gift shops before exiting.

Attraction

  • The first stage comes here is “Swagatam”. Swagatam – On entering in the complex you will see Welcome gates, Bhakti dwar, and Mayurdwar. The next part is Charnarvind (Holy footprints). A large marble replica of the holy footprints, of Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830 CE) between the two Mayur Dwars commemorate his incarnation on Earth. The sixteen holy symbols are seen in these holy footprints, which mark God’s feet as per the Hindu Shastras. Mandir – Second comes to the whole Temple itself. Here you can offer your prayers to the deities in Garbhagruh. Abhishek mandap - The Abhishek ritual begins with the sacred thread which is tied on the wrist. Then a brief recital of Sanskrit shlokas follows, after which each visitor bathes the idol of Neelkanth Varni with a small pot of sanctified water. During the shlokas and the bathing, visitors are encouraged to pray for their friends, families, themselves and harmony of all.

  • The temple has a canteen facility in its complex where you can taste North Indian as well as South Indian foods. There are many sweets and snacks items also available inside the temple. Apart from this Delhi is famous for its street food. From kachori to Chhole Bhature, you will find every food amazing here. Some of the must tryouts are Biryani from Delhi-6, Kebabs from Qureshi's, and many more like this.
